Year-end thanks from Zero-G

As 2011 winds to a close, we’d like to offer our heartiest thanks to everyone who attended or performed at the Zero-G and TransLucid concert series over the course of the year. Together, we’ve succeeded in establishing two vital and sorely needed performance venues for our region’s richly diverse community of original, unorthodox creative musicians – and we greatly look forward to continuing Zero-G into 2012. The success of the series is entirely owing to you, the audience members who venture out on Thursdays and Sundays in all weather to support live local music that eschews superficiality and ephemeral fashion – beaucoup gratitude to you all!

Since the official Zero-G launch at Mars Bar in January, we’ve presented 33 different ensembles covering the waterfront from out-jazz to avant-skronk, exploratory electronics, world-music hybrids, progressive rock, power improv, and the unclassifiable. Many thanks to the following artists for making this a musically memorable 2011: Eric Amrine Group, Ask the Ages, Aunt Jamamas Big Band Vigilantes, Tom Baker Quartet, Batholith, Bone Cave Ballet, Diminished Men, Dissonati, Fundamental Forces, Vance Galloway & Noisepoetnobody, Goat, Jason Goessl Quartet, Hound Dog Taylor’s Hand, Iron Kim Style, Joiephonic Explorations, The Luna Moth, MetriLodic, Moraine, Pornadoes, Reptet, Rhizome Ensemble, Schwa + Science, Special O.P.S., Sugar Skulls, Taylor/Burns/Zgonc, Tempered Steel, Byron Vannoy’s Thread, Trimtab, Valu Pak, Wah Wah Exit Wound, Yesod, Young Sub Lee, Zen Tornado.

Looking to 2012:

  • Mars Bar has been sold to new owners; no immediate major changes are foreseen, so Zero-G will continue to take place on the third Thursday of each month until further notice. We’re hopeful that we’ll continue to enjoy a symbiotic relationship with the new ownership and are committed to carrying on the series even if it eventually becomes necessary to find a new home.
  • Beginning in January, our TransLucid concerts at LUCID Jazz Lounge will take place on the fourth Sunday of each month (rather than the second Sunday as in 2011). The change has been made to widen the time interval between our two monthly presentations.
  • We’re looking to deepen our partnership with LUCID Jazz Lounge in the new year, with plans afoot to professionally record future TransLucid concerts for limited release on the LUCID imprint – stay tuned for details.
  • Be sure to check our blog regularly for updates including photos of the performances, and please join the Zero-G Facebook page if you frequent FB – and help us spread the word!

Many thanks again for your support, and whole-hearted wishes for a splendid holiday season and fulfilling 2012!

Dennis, Jason & Rik
