Thursday, April 19 • Mars Bar/Cafe Venus • 609 Eastlake Ave E, Seattle •  9 p.m. • $7 • 21+

  • Austenitic (9 p.m.): Ross Martin (bass, voice), Kelly Mynes (drums)
“Austenitic makes high-energy, complex songs heavy in melodic content, always from a songwriter’s perspective, always with a focus on challenging yet inviting composition, always steeped in and filtered through punk rock. Bass guitar, drums, and yeah, we SING, too!  We want the music to sound both like something we love and something we’ve never heard.”
  • Figeater (10 p.m.): Beth Fleenor (reeds, voice), Paul Kemmish (bass),Tom Zgonc (drums) “Disjunctive, raucous, soaring, and powerful – Figeater is a textural, tribal exploration of organic movement, instigated by clarinetist/composer Beth Fleenor. Improvisations are punctuated, buttoned, and launched by original compositions and songlike psychedelic episodes, with an emphasis on environmental participation.”
  • Moraine (11 p.m.)  “Moraine is an internationally acclaimed instrumental quintet led by guitarist Dennis Rea and featuring violinist Alicia DeJoie, woodwind player James DeJoie, bassist Kevin Millard, and drummer Stephen Cavit. With its several writers and full complement of ace instrumentalists arrayed in striking combination, Moraine has been enthusiastically received by audiences ranging from jazz aficionados to metalheads to progressive rock enthusiasts and has appeared alongside such renowned artists as Three Friends (Gentle Giant), Steve Hackett, Eddie Jobson, and Richard Pinhas.”
